Frequently asked questions
Why is part of the bottom unglazed?
Our soap dishes are made from high-fired ceramic stoneware, fired at 1220°C. The glaze is applied by dipping each piece, and the bottom is carefully wiped clean before firing. This is essential to prevent the piece from fusing to the kiln shelf during the firing process.
The unglazed base is a natural part of traditional ceramic craftsmanship – and a sign of a carefully handmade object.
We ordered two speckled blue & white soap dishes – why do they look different?
Each of our soap dishes is handmade. The glaze we use may vary slightly depending on where the piece is placed in the kiln and how thick the glaze is applied. These natural variations are part of the making process and make every piece truly one of a kind.
Can the soap dish scratch the sink?
Due to the nature of the production process, the underside of the soap dish is unglazed and slightly rough. In our tests, even when pressed firmly against a porcelain sink, it caused no visible scratches.
That said, we recommend handling it with care and avoiding unnecessary friction – just to be safe.
My sink is quite small – will the soap dish still fit?
We recommend measuring briefly. If your soap bar fits, the soap dish will too. Most soap bars are around 8 × 5 cm, which fits perfectly on the ROCKY M., measuring 9 × 6.5 cm.
If you prefer larger soap bars, we suggest our bigger soap dish, ROCKY L. – offering twice the size and just as much thoughtful design.
